Military Museums in the UK: A Visitor's Guide
Colin Sibun
This pocket-sized Guide, produced by the Army Museums Ogilby Trust (AMOT), is the successor to the very popular publication first compiled by Terence and Shirley Wise in 1969 and revised periodically ever since. It complements the Trust's website, www.armymuseums.org.uk, which also lists all the army museums in the UK.
In Part I of the Guide, 136 regimental and corps museums are listed alphabetically, by location, in 13 regional sections, each with its own accompanying map. Part II contains details of the principal national museums of military interest and AMOT is grateful for their support. Towards the back of the Guide is a Succession of Titles containing a simple table which enables the reader to trace the identity of a cavalry or infantry regiment from its title in the 1881 Army List right through to the most recent round of regimental amalgamations in 2006/7. The final section provides more information about the Army Museums Ogilby Trust, its founder, objectives and activities in support of regimental and corps museums. Softback, 96 pages.
